AP Biology is not a memorizing class. We teach it like it isn't.
Students who try to memorize AP Biology run out of room by Unit 4. The exam asks you to read data, design experiments, and predict outcomes. That is a skill, and it can be taught.

What AP Biology tutoring looks like with us
AP Biology has a lot of vocabulary, but the exam is built on science practices: interpreting graphs, justifying predictions, and describing experiments. Many students study the textbook for hours and still score a 3 because nobody showed them how the free response questions think.
Your tutor keeps up with your class unit by unit, then builds in short data analysis drills every week. By spring, reading an unfamiliar graph and writing a clear claim feels routine.
The 8 units of AP Biology

| 02 | Cell Structure and FunctionOrganelles, surface area to volume ratio, membranes, transport, water potential, compartmentalization | 10 to 13% |
| 03 | Cellular EnergeticsEnzymes, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, fitness | 12 to 16% |
| 04 | Cell Communication and Cell CycleSignal transduction, feedback, mitosis, cell cycle regulation | 10 to 15% |
| 05 | HeredityMeiosis, Mendelian genetics, non Mendelian inheritance, chi square | 8 to 11% |
| 06 | Gene Expression and RegulationDNA replication, transcription, translation, regulation, mutations, biotechnology | 12 to 16% |

How the AP Biology exam is built
| Section | Questions | Time | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Section I | 60 multiple choice | 90 min | 50% |
| Section II | 6 free response (2 long, 4 short) | 90 min | 50% |
The exam is hybrid digital: multiple choice in Bluebook, free response handwritten in a paper booklet. A four function, scientific, or graphing calculator is allowed, and a formula sheet is provided.
Where students lose points in AP Biology
Graph and data questions
The long free response questions often hand you data you have never seen. We practice a simple routine: what is measured, what changed, what is the trend, and what does it support.
Experimental design vocabulary
Independent variable, control group, and negative control are points you either earn or lose in one line. We make sure students use them precisely.
Cellular energetics
Photosynthesis and respiration get tested as systems, not lists of steps. We focus on where energy and electrons go, which is what the questions actually ask.
Chi square and Hardy Weinberg
The two math heavy topics on the exam. Both are very learnable with a few clean, repeatable setups.
What a typical session looks like
- First 5 min
Check in on class: what was taught this week, what is due, and when the next test is.
- Main block
Work through the topic that matters most right now, using your actual homework or class problems.
- Practice
Exam style questions on the same topic, scored the way AP readers score them.
- Last 5 min
A short plan for the week, and the topic for this week's worksheet.
- After
Our support team sends the worksheet, marks it, and returns a written score report and a retest on the weak spots. Parents get a copy.
